Packet tracer

Packet tracer

Lets play around with Packet tracer

This is a good network simulation for those who never been in with Cisco devices before. I have play with it for a number of times, and find it quite useful. I can suggest another one, where it is a network emulator (notice the difference?) which is more powerful and uses more processing and memories.

It is GNS3. It is more real-life comparing to Packet Tracer, but still we can learn something out of Packet Tracer. GNS3 is emulate the image of the device which is actually boots up the image and I heard we can even use it in LAN setup. How far we can use the feature is not known to me but I'm sure you can find out about it. Let's focus on the Packet Tracer.

Visit this link to have a few knack of what it's about.

You'll need to login for downloading it and get the latest version. If you have another way of obtaining it, be my guess.

Let's play around once install. I'll show you around in next post.

Dive into Cisco World

introduction

hi, and welcome to my first page and tutorial. The idea of this blog is simply a note or refresher for myself and also whoever wish to learn into the computer networking world.

I am a graduate from my local university, a degree in Computer Science, majoring computer networking. I have been mingling with the networking world since the first day in studies.

Basically I play around Cisco devices a lot more than any other products. I have studied basically H3C Comware, HP Procurve and F5 LTM and GTM. Please note that I usually works on these devices remotely and my only physical experience is really limited and only have touch cisco 2950 switches and 1740 router (seldom see it now, probably they have been EOL*).

You're welcome to enjoy the contents, and I do like suggestions or points that can contribute to my knowledge in networking. The subject is vast as I believe in whatever subject there is. Let's take a step into the world of Cisco.

EOL - end of life, basically the manufacturer are no longer manufacturing them nor support them.
